A New Center of Dental Medicine Opens in Virginia Beach, VA.

Dr. Scott Parr and Dr. Tara Frey have always been at the leading edge of dentistry.  As one of the leading dental offices in the Tidewater area and having been on the cusp of such technologies as cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign orthodontic treatment, implant dentistry, CEREC computerized crowns and sedation dentistry it is no surprise that they are at the forefront of possibly the most important advancement in dentistry yet. 

Over the past few years numerous studies have demonstrated an intimate link between dental infections (namely periodontal disease) and several medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, premature birth rates and even cancer.  Citing increased rates of up to 6 times in people who have advanced periodontal disease; these studies have ended the debate regarding the intimate relationship between dental health and overall health.  Dr. Parr and Dr. Frey again are leading the charge as they become the first dentists in the state of Virginia to be certified with the Centers for Dental Medicine.

Being certified with the Centers for Dental Medicine means that they are treating dental infections proven to compromise patients’ medical health using cutting edge technologies.   The challenge is that the culprit, disease causing bacteria, often goes unnoticed with no obvious symptoms until it is very advanced.  Using the latest Techniques including bacterial testing, evaluating levels of CRP and A1c (factors that demonstrate the degree of inflammation and how well blood sugar is controlled), genetic testing, a computerized measurement of gum health called a Florida Probe as well as treatment modalities including lasers to eradicate causative bacteria they are able diagnose patients with the disease and treat it simply and effectively.  They have included these progressive techniques in their cutting edge practice to ensure that their patients are improving their chances of living long and healthy lives.
